Maggie Kohrs Analysis of Claude Monets Rocks at Belle-ile As I searched through the museum for a piece to write my paper on, I was struck by some beautiful works and found it hard to finalize on just one. Pieces such as Undergrowth with 2 Figures by Van Gogh, Flower Still Life by maria Van Oosterwijck, and An Artist Studying from Nature by Claude Lorraine, stood out to me for many reasons. The vivid affectations and the way the artists captured the satisfying beauty of the position is amazing to me. Since we had to pick just one, I decided on Rocks at Belle-ile, by Claude Monet. Although his impressionist films of pissing lilies and his garden are his or so renowned works, during his life Claude Monet worked to develop his style. Monet worked directly from nature and showed that even on the bastinado day, many varieties of color are however able to be seen. To capture the vindicated, he used in brief brushstrokes of color to create a canvas that is alive an d coarse-textured as contradictory to ?at and blended. The picture show I chose, Rocks at Belle-ile, was done in1886 in France, and is done in oil paints on canvas. The orange/auburn colors on the rocks really laudation the blues in the water. Monet easily captures depth using the high spirits pastel colors in the upper par t of the painting. The gamey colors slowl! y fade away as it moves up the painting and this helps to show perspective. Also, the lighter rock towards the top of the painting is a color that contrasts well with the blues in the painting. Monet shows light incredibly in this work. I can see that the fair weather is on the left field shining onto the rocks. He does this by adding whites, yellows, and pinks to the water on the left side.
